The Cadillac Vikings made a run to the State Championship game in 2020, falling in the finals against Detroit Country Day. This year, the Vikings are playing their best football late, hoping to return to Ford Field. They concluded their regular season on Friday night with a seventh victory, shutting out Fremont 35-0.
In the first quarter, Cadillac scored three times to blow this game wide open. Just sixty-three seconds into the action, Aden Gurden found Derek Rood on a 26-yard touchdown strike. The Vikings’ defense responded quickly, as Keenan Suminski stepped in front of a Packers’ pass and raced for the touchdown. Finally, Caleb McKinley powered across the goal line from a yard out, giving the Vikings a 21-0 lead.
Offense continued in the second frame, as Cadillac found the end zone just thirty-eight seconds into the quarter. Chris Reinhold burst through the Fremont defense, racing for a 65-yard score. Reinhold would add a 38-yard touchdown run near the midpoint of the quarter, giving Cadillac a 35-0 advantage.
With the running clock in effect in the second half, neither team would score. The Vikings took their third shutout victory of the season, marching into the playoffs on a three-game win streak. Chris Reinhold led the Vikings with 103 rushing yards on just two carries, both going for touchdowns.
Alex Gleason was the Fremont leader in offense, as he was 11/14 passing for 60 yards. Gleason added a team-high 69 rushing yards for the Packers on six carries. Justin Dirheimer had 29 rushing yards and 30 receiving yards.
Cadillac will learn their playoff foe on Sunday, as they begin their Division 4 postseason march. Fremont concludes their 2021 campaign with a 1-8 record.
