The Fennville Blackhawks took on the Bloomingdale Cardinals in a SWMFL battle on Saturday afternoon. It was a one-sided affair, as they cruised to a 78-22 win, evening their record at 3-3.
It was an all-around team performance for Fennville in this win. Ben Peterson finished 11/13 passing for 347 yards and 7 scores. He also recorded two interceptions on defense. Tyler Schut led the way with three receptions that racked up 135 yards, all going for touchdowns. On defense, Schut tallied 1o tackles. Corey Callejas also had three catches, going for 119 yards and two scores. Devohn Calhoun and Dylan Schut each caught a touchdown pass as well.
Dylan Schut added a kickoff return for a touchdown, and an interception on defense. Makai Weimer scored his first set of varsity touchdowns, finishing the game with 101 rushing yards, 8 tackles, and scores on a carry and an interception return. Nathan Griffin also found the end zone for the first time, intercepting a pass for a score in addition to his ten tackles. Nick Beach joined the defensive fun with an interception for Fennville.
MHSAA 8-Man records were broken in this victory, including most interceptions in a single-game (7) and most passing touchdowns in a half (7, Ben Peterson). Peterson’s seven passing touchdowns are tied for 1st in an entire game in 8-Man history, and the seven scores are the third most total single-game touchdowns ever. Fennville’s 78 points also set a school record.
This victory extends Fennville’s winning streak to three games. The Blackhawks will look to move their record above .500 with a non-league bout against Northpointe Christian on the horizon. Bloomingdale, who scored a season high 22 points, is 1-5 with a 58-304 point differential. The Cardinals will battle with 2-4 Gobles on Friday.
