The West Michigan Conference battle intriguing to the most persons this week was the showdown between Montague and Ravenna. Early offense got both teams rolling, and defense sealed the deal.
Ravenna struck first in this game, just about five minutes in. Kyle Beebe got things started with a 5-yard quarterback keeper. Hunter Hogan added the extra point for the Bulldogs, extending their lead to 7-0.
Montague would respond, as Dylan Everett capped off a scoring drive with a short touchdown run of his own. The extra point by Andrew Kooi brought the game to even, 7-7, as the first quarter ended.
In the second quarter, Andrew Kooi took to the air. He found Tugg Nichols for 26 yards and a touchdown. Kooi’s extra point sealed the deal.
Montague was outgained by Ravenna 249-269. Dylan Everett was the star tonight, rushing 29 times for 162 yards and a score. Andrew Kooi was effective passing, completing 6/11 for 56 yards, and he also rushed for 30 yards on six carries.
Next week, Montague will take on Shelby. Ravenna will square up with Hart.
