The St Louis Sharks welcomed Calvin Christian to town for their 2021 season opener. It was the first game for Calvin Christian since 2019, as the Squires did not field a team last season. It was a rude awakening for the Squires, as St Louis emerged victorious 49-30.
Ignatius Jackson was the star of the show for the Sharks, as he rushed for three touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Raforta Vasquez added another rushing touchdown for St. Louis. Michael Baysah had just two catches, but he turned it into 119 yards and a touchdown.
The turning point in this game was the defense of the Sharks. In addition to his receiving prowess, Baysah recorded a sack, a fumble, and blocked a punt. Wizdom Zanquo recorded an important interception for St Louis. The real defensive star was Ben Dousuah, as he intercepted a pair of passes and returned them both for touchdowns.
St Louis who was 2-4 a season ago, secured their fourth season-opening victory in the last five years (2020 loss to Hemlock). Next week, the Sharks will welcome Hesperia into town. Calvin Christian will travel to Muskegon Heights to take on the Tigers.
