The Girls basketball season completed its second week of the 2019-20 season this past week. We take a look below at select teams throughout the area on their performances this far:
The Scots started the 2019-20 season with a 48-38 win on the road against Spring Lake. Since that game, they suffered three tough defeats at the hands of Gull Lake, Wayland and Byron Center. This week, they will try to rebound when they hit the road for a pair of games against Covenant Christian (Tuesday) and South Christian (Friday).
Cedar Springs (4-0)
The Redhawks are 4-0 on the season. They started the year with a pair of road wins against Sparta (39-26) and Grant (44-28). This past week, they beat Oakridge by 37 and followed that up with a ten point win over Newaygo on Wednesday night. Cedar Springs will hit the road this week with a pair of games on tap. They will visit Big Rapids on Tuesday and follow that up with a game against Northpointe Christian on Friday.
Central Montcalm (3-1)
The Hornets started off the season with three consecutive wins over Greenville, Carson City-Crystal and White Cloud. On Friday, they suffered their first defeat in 45 regular season games when they fell to the Grant Tigers in their CSAA-Gold opener. A plethora of Tigers’ turnovers gave Central Montcalm an early lead in that game, before Grant roared back to take a two-point lead with just twenty seconds to play. Central Montcalm drew up a play and got a clean look at the buzzer, but it ultimately fell short in a 39-37 defeat. Bailey Vissman led Central Montcalm with fifteen points. London Eldridge added nine points and six rebounds for the Hornets.
Forest Hills Central (2-1)
The Rangers are off to a 2-1 start in large part to stellar play by star player Theryn Hallock. The Michigan State commit for the 2022 recruiting class put on a show against Forest Hills Eastern this past Friday. She scored 40 of the team’s 57 points in a 57-27 victory.
