The Zeeland West Dux and Zeeland East Chix met in the postseason for the third straight season and the fifth time since 2012. In three of the four prior meetings, the regular season winner has been defeated in the postseason rematch. This year, the Dux took their twenty point regular season win and built on that in the rematch. They controlled all facets of this game in a 38-7 victory that earned them a trip to the district finals.

Ethan Houghtaling took to the air and got things rolling for Zeeland East. His forty four yard touchdown gave the Chix a 7-0 advantage. Carson Gulker responded for Zeeland West as he ran twenty two yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion by Evan Eding gave the Dux an 8-7 advantage after the first quarter of play. The second quarter saw both defenses play strong, but Zeeland West was able to extend their lead. Eding’s three yard touchdown run made it 16-7 in favor of Zeeland West as the teams went to half.

The Dux held Zeeland East scoreless in the second half, but their offense was able to extend the lead. Gulker and Eding paired up for a forty six yard touchdown pass before Gulker converted on the two point conversion to push the lead to seventeen. After Wyatt Geurink made a play defensively by recovering a fumble, he ran twenty six yards for a touchdown on the next play to push the lead to 31-7 Dux. The defense got another big play to put Zeeland West back on the Chix three yard line. Evan Eding’s third touchdown of the game, paired with a two-point conversion, made it 38-7. Eding finished the game with 109 yards rushing to lead the explosive T-Offense.

With the victory, Zeeland West advanced to the district finals. They will host Edwardsburg, the defending Division 4 State Champions who are on a 24-game winning streak. They advanced to the district finals by defeating St. Joseph 42-8 on Friday night.
