East Grand Rapids Pioneers hosted the regular season finale against the Wyoming Wolves. The Pioneers needed a win to secure a playoff spot in the 2019 MHSAA post season. Although the opportunity to receive an at large bid would follow a loss, Coach Casey Longo wanted to control the East destiny. By the halftime break, the plan was coming together, East was dominant leading 21-0. The third frame would see the Pioneers score 3 more touchdowns. The Wyoming Wolves would score the final 10 points of the game, but that would be too little too late. East would form the victory formation to secure the 40-10 victory as the clock ran down to all zeros.

East used several players en route to the victory. Jr WR Aiden Stadel (center) started the scoring with a 14 yard wide receiver sweep. Sr RB John Shelton IV would run in two scores. The first from 38 yards and the second from 14. Classmate QB/WR Robbie Stuursma (right) would run one in from 28 and then find fellow senior WR Jack Mundell on a 57 yard TD pass. Jr Nathan Millanowski (left) would also find the end zone as he returned a Wyoming Jr P Guizzippi Jobse punt 51 yards to pay dirt. The Wolves Sr RB De’marion Parks ran in the lone wolves touchdown from 41 yards and Sr K Adel Odobasic added a 28 yard field goal.

The win moves the Pioneers to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the OK Gold. They have qualified for the playoffs and will await the pairings to prepare for the Pre-Districts next week. The Wolves fall to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the OK Gold.

The MHSAA will announce the Playoff Pairings on Sunday at 7pm on Fox Sports Detroit.
