The Grandville Bulldogs and Rockford Rams squared off on Friday with major implications in the OK Red at stake. The Rams could clinch a share of the title with a victory, and Grandville could draw even to cause a first place tie heading into the final week. A huge shock to many saw Grandville defeat Rockford 30-3.

Rockford scored first in this game. After a scoreless first quarter, they marched down the field and found themselves in field goal range. Teagan Lenderink kicked a 30 yard field goal to give the Rams a 3-0 lead. Later in the second quarter, Rockford had a chance to extend their lead when they entered the red zone. The Grandville defense stepped up and forced a fumble to keep the score at 3-0 as the teams entered the locker room.

The Rams opened the second half with the football and were driving until they committed another turnover. This time, Grandville capitalized for points. Cam Terry ran twenty four yards to the end zone to put Grandville ahead 6-3. Once again Grandville’s defense helped them score points when they forced a safety on a punt attempt. On the ensuing offense that followed, Grandville continued to extend their lead. Quarterback Ian Sanders found Tommy Gregwer for a twenty four yard touchdown pass. Before the third quarter ended, Cam Terry broke off an eighty two yard run to give Grandville a 22-3 lead after the third quarter of play.

Grandville’s defense continued to make tremendous plays in the fourth quarter of this game. Rockford crossed midfield before their pass was intercepted by Dash Herrema and he went sixty yards to the end zone. This gave the Bulldogs the 30-3 score that they would win by. Ethan Schultz was able to rack up another interception for the Bulldogs before it was over.

With the win, Grandville improves to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play. They will try to clinch at least a share of the OK Red with a win over Caledonia next week. This defeat was Rockford’s first of the season, sliding them to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Red. They will also try to lock up a piece of the league title when they take on Kentwood next week.
