The Northview Wildcats entered Week 7 with a 4-2 record. This meant that they needed wins in two of their final three games to earn an automatic spot in the MHSAA playoffs. This number has changed to just one win over the final two games after tonight’s 45-14 blowout victory over Greenville.
Northview got off to a hot start in this game, scoring the first 21 points. Three minutes into this game, Daniel Frey connected with Kaden Boucher for a nineteen yard touchdown. They would double their lead four minutes later when Frey used his legs on a seven yard touchdown run. Before the first quarter ended, Ja’Kaurie Kirkland got in on the action when he broke off a 35 yard touchdown run. to give the Wildcats a 21-0 lead after the first twelve minutes.
Greenville started the scoring in the second quarter when Grant Thwaites ran fifteen yards for a touchdown. Northview answered this with a score of their own when Jovani Wilks plunged over the goal line from two yards out. The Wildcats would also add a 32 yard field goal in this quarter to stretch the halftime lead to 31-6.
Once again, Greenville started the quarter with a touchdown. Thwaites tossed the ball to Zane Bigelow for an eight yard touchdown. The two point conversion cut the deficit to seventeen points. Northview responded with a pair of scores over the remainder of this game. First it was the combination of Frey and Boucher, who scored their second touchdown of the game on a ten yard pass. In the fourth quarter, it was the defense who got in on the fun. Gavin Jones scooped up a fumble and ran it 89 yards to the end zone for the Northview touchdown.
With the win, Northview now finds themselves just one win from reaching the playoffs. They will need to beat either Caledonia next week or Lowell in Week 9 to find their sixth victory of the season. On the other side of things, Greenville slides to 1-6 with the defeat. They finish the season with games against Forest Hills Northern and Forest Hills Central.
