The Vikings of Swan Valley faced off against Standish-Sterling in the latest game of their Tri-Valley Conference Central conference action. After a tough loss to Frankenmuth last week, they responded with an offensive explosion against the Panthers. They got a 49-19 victory for their fourth win of the season.
Standish-Sterling got the scoring started in this game when Dylan Kolbiaz connected with Landon Jennings on a 28 yard touchdown pass to give the Panthers a 6-0 edge. On their ensuing drive, Swan Valley responded with seven points of their own. Avery Goldensoph paired up with Easton Goldensoph on a 14 yard touchdown to take a one-point lead. They pushed the lead to eight points just moments later when Khyree Harris plunged it in from a yard out. Goldensoph took to the air and found Ethan Champney for a 17 yard score to push the lead to 21-6 Swan Valley after the first quarter of play.
In the second quarter, Andrew Rousseau scored on a four yard run to extend Swan Valley’s lead. Standish-Sterling drew the deficit within fifteen points when Kolbiaz and Jennings paired up once again on a 19 yard pass. This made it a 28-13 game when the teams entered the locker room for halftime.
Swan Valley started the second half with a pair of rushing touchdowns to blow this game wide open. Joe Bula got a three yard touchdown run for the first score. Rousseau plunged it in from a yard out to move the lead to 42-13. Kolbiaz and Jennings connected for a third touchdown for Standish-Sterling, but that was the closest that they would get in the second half. Rousseau ran fifteen yards to the end zone for Swan Valley for the only touchdown in this game’s fourth quarter.
With the victory, Swan Valley finds themselves at 4-2 overall and 3-2 in league play. Next week, the Vikings will take on Freeland. Standish-Sterling slides to 3-3 with the defeat. Their playoff fate will be determined based on their final three games, and that starts against Essexville Garber next Friday.
