The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks took a couple of tough losses the past few weeks against tough conference foes. This week they got the ball rolling early, and their first half scoring carried them to a big win over Wayland on Friday, 44-6.

Near the end of the first quarter, Forest Hills Eastern got a 60 yard run by Austyn Adams. A few plays later Gage Krueger connected with Adams on a ten yard touchdown to get them on the board with a 8-0 edge. After recovering an onside kick, the Hawks marched down the field again. This time, Krueger found Ethan Johns for a nine-yard touchdown pass. This game the Hawks a 15-0 lead after the first quarter of play.

Wayland got on the board early in the second quarter. After a 46 yard pass from Grant Chesley to Timothy Wierckz, Wayland was able to punch it in on a Zac Jones three yard run. Krueger went to the air on fourth down of FHE’s next drive and he connected with Joseph Hocks for a 49 yard score. Then Krueger paired up with Caden Vandenberge on a nine-yard touchdown to give the Hawks a 31-6 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Cal Doyle got in on the passing attack for FHE. He found Jacob Armbrester from 19 yards out to extend the Hawks’ lead. The final touchdown in this game came from Ethan Castillo, and he found the end zone from 13 yards out.

Forest Hills Eastern was able to outgain Wayland in this game by a 353-187 yardage margin. Kreuger led the way with 10 completions for 142 yards and four touchdowns. The Hawks’ defensive unit was stout as well, holding the Wildcats to six points, eight first downs, and 4/14 on third down conversions.

With the victory, the Hawks improve to 3-3 on the season. They will take on Sparta in a non-conference game with major playoff implications. Wayland slides to 0-6 on the season with this defeat. Next week, they will try and get their first win of the season against Wyoming.
