The Central Montcalm Hornets have been one of the best turnaround stories in Michigan this season. They had lost 31 of their last 36 games entering this season, including a thirteen game losing streak. With their 34-6 win over Big Rapids on Friday night, the Hornets are now 5-0 on the season, matching the combined win total of the past four years combined.

Four minutes into this game, the Hornets started the scoring. Brock Ryan was able to break through from ten yards out to give Central Montcalm a 7-0 advantage. Four minutes later, Teague Donazzolo used his legs to run 18 yards through the Cardinals defense for a score. With just five seconds left in the first quarter, the Hornets found the end zone again. This time they took to the air and Andrew Johnson found Fisher Hill for a 35 yard touchdown. After the successful two-point try, their lead sat at 21-0 after the first twelve minutes.

Jordan Lewis got Big Rapids on the board with a touchdown early in the second quarter, though the extra point try was unsuccessful. Central Montcalm responded with a six yard run by Johnson to extend their lead out to 28-6 as the teams entered the locker room.

Neither team would score in the third quarter, and Central Montcalm scored the only touchdown in the fourth quarter. Once again it was Johnson, who ran it in from four yards out for his third touchdown of the evening. The Hornets were able to rack up 195 yards rushing in this win. Donazzolo was the leading rusher with 103 yards, and Brock Ryan was able to add 67 yards to this total.

Central Montcalm is now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in CSAA-Gold play. This is the most wins in a single season for the Hornets since 2014, and this is the best start the team has had since 2010. Next week, the Hornets will take on Remus Chippewa Hills. On the other side of things, Big Rapids is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in league play. They will be facing Reed City next Friday in their latest CSAA-Gold contest.
