The Zeeland East Chix got knocked off a week ago against Grand Rapids Catholic Central to fall to 2-1 on the season. This week, they took on Hamilton in the first game of the OK Green season, and they roared back in a major way. The offense was able to score in bunches as they won 48-7 against the Hawkeyes.

On their opening drive, Ethan Houghtailing got things going with a four yard touchdown run. Hamilton’s first offensive play did not go so well, as the Chix defense made a big play. William Fredrickson stripped the ball and gave Zeeland East the ball on the 25 yard line. Seven plays later, Houghtailing struck again with an eight yard touchdown run. Before the first quarter was over, Hamilton got on the board. Quentin Soerens went 38 yards to Fischer Grady for the score to move the Hawkeyes within seven.

In the second quarter, Zeeland East pushed the lead out to fourteen points. On a third down and 24, Houghtailing went deep and found Ryan Stockdale for a 44 yard touchdown. Just seconds before halftime, Hamilton was driving inside the five yard line. On fourth and short, Zeeland East pitched a stop and they preserved the fourteen lead entering the locker room. This was a key play in the game, stifling any momentum that the Hawkeyes had accumulated.

On the opening drive of the half, Fredrickson once again made a big play on defense. He intercepted a pass and set Zeeland East up in plus territory. Cebastien Hunderman ran it in from a yard out to give the Chix a three score lead. The special teams unit for Zeeland East stepped up on the next drive as they blocked a punt. Hunderman found the end zone again when he ran 34 yards for a touchdown to make it 35-7.
Hunderman found the end zone for the third time in the fourth quarter. He was on the receiving end of a five yard touchdown pass from Houghtailing. Before the night was over, Zeeland East would score one more time. Samuel Cochran capped off the scoring with a 17 yard pass to Thomas Zegunis.
The Chix are now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the OK Green. League play continues next week against Holland Christian. With the defeat, Hamilton slides to 2-2 on the year and 0-2 in the OK Green. They take on Holland next Friday in another conference game.
