The Hudsonville Eagles and Caledonia Fighting Scots met on Friday night in an OK Red battle. These two teams treated the fans to a back and forth affair on Homecoming night at Ralph E Meyers Memorial Stadium in Caledonia. Eventually, the third quarter run was too much for Caledonia to overcome, and the Eagles won 27-20.

After a scoreless first quarter of action, Caledonia got on the board first. Jax Kinninger went to the air and connected with Jack Snider for a 26 yard touchdown. The extra point by Mitchell Hooker gave the Scots a 7-0 advantage. In the waning seconds of the second quarter, Hooker hit a 30 yard field goal to give the Fighting Scots a 10-0 lead heading into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Hudsonville found their groove. Ike Irish scored first for the Eagles when he broke through the defense for a 43 yard touchdown. Four minutes later, they would take the lead when Brennan Hayes punched it in from one yard out. Before the third quarter ended, Bryce Ouding ran for a two-yard touchdown to extend Hudsonville’s lead. Emanuel Dieppa was successful on all three extra points, which meant that the Eagles would hold a 21-10 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Ike Irish’s second touchdown of the game gave Hudsonville a 17 points advantage. Midway through the final quarter of play, the Scots defense provided a spark to get them back in the game. Marcus Joplin-Pinero was able to recover a forced fumble in the end zone for a touchdown to cut the lead to eleven points. The Scots got the ball back and moved it down to the Hudsonville fourteen yard-line. Hooker kicked a field goal from 31 yards out to move the score to 27-20. Caledonia was unable to overcome that deficit in the final fifteen seconds.

Jax Kinninger threw the ball 31 times in this contest, completing 13 of them for 78 yards. Jack Snider was the leading receiver for Caledonia, hauling in six passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. Carson Vanderhoff had 22 carries in this game, and he totaled 86 yards to lead the Scots’ rushing attack. Caledonia is now 1-3 on the season, and they will take on West Ottawa next Friday night.

On the Hudsonville side, they only completed one of six attempted passes. Ike Irish had the 15 receiving yards, and he led the rushing attack with 12 carries for 125 yards and two scores. Davyon Lesure was also a strong contributor for the Eagles in this one, as he had 14 carries for 82 yards. The Eagles now sit at 3-1 on the year. They will face Jenison in a non-conference game next week.
