The East Kentwood Falcons’ offense was stifled a bit in last week’s win over Caledonia. This week, they found their rhythm again in a large way, as they won over West Ottawa 63-35.
Kentwood wasted no time scoring in this game, as they found the end zone just thirty seconds in. Ja’moni Jones hauled in Christian Tanner’s pass to put the Falcons up 7-0. They would double their lead just a few minutes later when Josh Ledesma ran it in from four yards out. After Blake Bosma’s catch put West Ottawa on the board, Kentwood responded with a 61-yard touchdown strike from Tanner to Jones.
In the second quarter, Bosma caught his second touchdown of the night to get the Panthers back within seven points. Once again, Kentwood responded. Ledesma broke through the defense for a 65 yard touchdown. Bosma continued to be the spark for West Ottawa when he caught a 36 yard touchdown to make it 28-21 EK. The Panthers tied the game shortly after when Kobe Hescott stepped in front of the pass and went 70 yards to the end zone. Before the teams went to the locker room, East Kentwood regained the lead on a seven yard score by Ledesma.
Ledesma’s fourth touchdown, a four yard run, started the scoring in the second half. Bosma would bring West Ottawa back within seven with another score, though this time it was an interception return.
The Falcons would end this game by scoring three straight touchdowns to put this one out of reach. First it was Ledesma for the fifth time from 32 yards out. Then Christian Tanner used his legs to find the end zone twice, first from 53 and then from 32 yards out.
With the win, East Kentwood improves to 3-1 on the season. Next week, they have a huge OK Red showdown against Grandville. West Ottawa slides to 0-4 on the year, and they look for win number one next week against Caledonia.
