The Vikings were happy to start TVC-Central play last week when they had little trouble against Bridgeport. This week, they continued their excellent play in conference action when they took on Birch Run. Swan Valley’s defense stepped up and pitched a shutout in a 49-0 victory.
On the very first play of the game, Swan Valley set the tone with an interception by Ben Fordney. This set up the first score of the game when Avery Goldensoph and Ethan Champney were able to connect for a 17-yard touchdown. Two minutes later, the duo found each other again and they broke off a 40 yard touchdown. Before the quarter was over, Andrew Rousseau ran through the teeth of the Birch Run defense for a three-yard score. This extended the first quarter lead to 21-0.
The second quarter was much of the same for Swan Valley. Avery Goldensoph found Easton Goldensoph from ten yards out to get the scoring started. Three minutes later, Champney hauled in his third touchdown of the game, this time for 31 yards. In the last touchdown of the half, Goldensoph threw his fifth touchdown pass. This time, he connected with Ara Nab for his first touchdown of the year, pushing the lead to 42-0 as the teams entered the locker room.
With the running clock in the second half, the Vikings offense was only able to muster up a single touchdown. With just over two minutes left in the game, Miekael Brooker broke free for a fifty yard touchdown to extend the lead to its final 49-0 margin. This is the first shutout for Swan Valley since last year’s 33-0 win over Carrollton in Week 8. Next week, the Vikings will look to improve to 3-0 in league play when they face Alma. For Birch Run, they are now 1-2 on the season. The Panthers take on Essexville-Garber next Friday night.
