After a tough defeat at the hands of the Mona Shores Sailors, East Kentwood looked to bounce back against Grand Ledge in Week 2. After mustering just seven points a week ago, Falcons’ fans had to be relieved to see the team score 39 points in a blowout win against the Comets.

The offense started scoring on the first drive for EK when Joshua Ledesma went 40 yards through the Grand Ledge defense for the score. After an interception by Colton Emeott, the Falcons were in strong scoring position. Emeott was on the receiving end of a 30 yard pass to put EK ahead 13-0 after the first quarter of play.

Two more touchdowns would fall East Kentwood’s way in the second quarter. On a double reverse play, it was Kentwood’s junior receiver William Berris who would emerge with the football and run it 39 yards to the end zone for six. With 28 seconds left in the quarter, Christian Tanner used his legs for a 22 yard touchdown run to extend the halftime lead to 25-0.

Ja’Moni Jones showed his speed and athleticism when he was on the receiving end of a 82 yard pass play at the end of the third quarter to expand the lead to 32 points. After Grand Ledge managed to break the shutout with a four yard run by Carter Selby, Kentwood had one more scoring play up their sleeve. Branden Miller was able to run three yards to the end zone for the final touchdown of the game, making it a 39-6 win for the Falcons.

East Kentwood is now 1-1 on the season and they will begin OK Red play against Caledonia next week. For Grand Ledge, they are now 0-2 on the year after losing a pair of games to OK Red teams. They will begin CAAC-Blue play against East Lansing next week.
