The MHSAA Girls Basketball playoffs continued on Wednesday night, as teams played in the district semifinal round. For some, they punched their ticket to a district championship game on Friday night. Those on the other side of the scoreboard however, their season comes to an end with dissapointment tonight. Wednesday’s scores and Friday’s matchups can be found below:
Division 1 District 9 at Reeths-Puffer
Muskegon 52 Grand Rapids Union 22
Reeths-Puffer 48 Kenowa Hills 33
FINALS: Muskegon vs Reeths-Puffer, Friday 7:00
The all-OK Black semifinals in District 9 treated fans to two lopsided affairs. The Big Reds dominated Union for the third time this season to advance to the district finals, and Reeths-Puffer did the same with Kenowa Hills. Muskegon and Reeths-Puffer are also meeting for the third time now this season, and Muskegon won both of those contests rather handily.
Division 1 District 10 at Zeeland East
Hudsonville 45 West Ottawa 29
Zeeland East 38 Holland 36
FINALS: Hudsonville vs Zeeland East, Friday 7:00
There were a pair of conference rematches in Zeeland on Wednesday night. In the first game, Hudsonville won the rubber match of their season series against West Ottawa. The Eagles played phenomenal defense, holding WO to a season-low 29 points. This was the third game in which Hudsonville held an opponent to under thirty points in a game. Zeeland East got the best of Holland in the second semifinal, their second win in three tries against the Dutch. This sets up a district final between Hudsonville (13-9) and Zeeland East (10-12), two teams who have played tremendous defense throughout the course of the season.
Division 1 District 11 at East Grand Rapids
East Kentwood 73 Wyoming 49
East Grand Rapids 49 Byron Center 40
FINALS: East Kentwood vs East Grand Rapids, Friday 7:00
The Pioneers and the Falcons both advanced to Friday’s title game, and on paper this is one of the best in the area. Kentwood is 17-4, and the Pioneers are 20-2, and they are both battle tested with big victories throughout the season. The winner of this game will be a favorite at next week’s regionals, and this game has all of the makings of a classic on Friday night. On December 18, these two teams played a game that went down to the wire before EGR was able to pull out a 53-49 victory. Expect another nail biter at East on Friday night.
Division 1 District 12 at Northview
Cedar Springs 42 Forest Hills Central 38
Forest Hills Northern 50 Northview 48
FINALS: Forest Hills Northern vs Cedar Springs, Friday 7:00
In the semifinals at Northview on Wednesday, there were two phenomenal games that went down to the wire. The four teams left entering Wednesday were all members of the OK White, and the games were indicative of the fact that they were playing their third matchups of the season. After losing twice to the Rangers during the regular season, Cedar Springs was able to get the victory in Wednesday’s game. The other side of the bracket was very similar, as Forest Hills Northern was able to get some revenge on Northview. The Huskies had lost twice to Northview during the regular season, including one in overtime, but tonight they were able to finish out play late and wrap up a spot in the finals. The all-OK White final of Cedar Springs and Forest Hills Northern is their third meeting of the year. FHN won both games by 15 and 18 points respectively.
Division 2 District 37 at Shepherd
Stanton Central Montcalm 55 Shepherd 16
Alma 57 Belding 30
FINALS: Stanton Central Montcalm vs Alma, Friday 7:00
The Shepherd district produced two blowout contests in Wednesday’s semifinals. Fortunately for fans, the two best teams in the district remain alive and they will square off in Friday’s championship game. The undefeated Central Montcalm Hornets will have one of their biggest tests of the season against the 16-4 Alma Panthers. These two are typically not in our coverage zone, but this has the makings of a fantastic ballgame on Friday night.
Division 2 District 41 at Whitehall
Oakridge 59 Spring Lake 54
Fruitport 60 Orchard View 18
FINALS: Oakridge vs Fruitport, Friday 7:00
Division 2 District 42 at Grant
Newaygo 62 Comstock Park 51
Coopersville 46 Sparta 37
FINALS: Newaygo vs Coopersville, Friday 7:00
The Newaygo Lions got the best of Comstock Park to advance to the district finals on Wednesday night. In an OK Blue matchup, Coopersville got the win in the rubber match of their season series against Sparta. Cara VanKempen led Coopersville with 13 points, and Sheridan Smoes added 10. Sparta got 13 from Delaney Armock and eight from Mia Vandenberg in the defeat. These results give us the same district final matchup as in the boys playoffs. Coopersville will look to complete the district sweep on Friday night, as their boys team got the best of Newaygo last Friday night.

Allendale 43 Forest Hills Eastern 31
GR Catholic Central 36 West Catholic 18

They take on Allendale, who scored a 12 point victory over Forest Hills Eastern in the semifinals. In two other matchups this year, Catholic Central swept the action. They won 58-25 and 43-35 in the two contests.
Division 2 District 44 at Grand Rapids Christian
South Christian 59 Grand Rapids Christian 26
Godwin Heights 56 Kelloggsville 40
FINALS: South Christian vs Godwin Heights, Friday 7:00
The District 44 playoffs saw a pair of conference matchups in its semifinals. South Christian was able to win the rubber match over Grand Rapids Christian in such dominating fashion (on the road too), leaving fans wondering how they possibly lost once in this series. In the other game, Godwin Heights completed the three-game season sweep with its biggest win of the year over Kelloggsville. Now the 12-9 Sailors and the 10-10 Wolverines will face-off for the district title on Friday night.
Division 2 District 45 at Unity Christian
Holland Christian 35 Unity Christian 29
Hamilton 53 Allegan 27
FINALS: Holland Christian vs Hamilton, Friday 7:00
In their third meeting of the season, Holland Christian was able to go on the road and earn their second win over Unity Christian to advance to Friday’s finals. They will take on undefeated Hamilton, who had little trouble against Allegan. Hamilton swept the season series over Holland Christian by an average of 15 points, but anything can happen during the postseason.
Division 2 District 48 at Otsego
Plainwell 69 Parchment 26

Division 3 District 74 at Saugatuck

There will be a district champion with a losing record as a result of the Saugatuck district. The Squires have won two consecutive games to get their record to 8-11, while Covenant’s win improves their record to 5-15. In the regular season, these two met back on January 18. Calvin Christian was able to win 59-39, but expect Friday’s game to be much closer.
