The playoff run continues for the Grand Rapids Christian hockey team. On Wednesday night in the regional semifinals, the Eagles dominated West Catholic from the opening faceoff. They outshot the Falcons 43-5 en route to a 7-0 blowout victory.

In the first period, Grand Rapids Christian scored one goal to take an early lead. This occurred as a result of outshooting the Falcons by an impressive 23-1. In the second period, Grand Rapids Christian outshot the Falcons 5-0, and they scored a goal on all five shots. In the third period, they outshot West Catholic 15-4 and they managed their seventh goal of the night to cap off a 7-0 victory.

There were five players that scored for the Eagles in Wednesday night’s contest. Ashton Bol, Jordan Koetje, Kavanaugh Kane and Jack Zwiers were all able to score one goal in this game. The team leader offensively was Joey Hildebrand, who netted a hat-trick in the victory. He took eight shots to convert a trio of goals.

Seven assists were awarded to the seven goals on Wednesday night. Kavanaugh Kane led the way with two assists for the Eagles. Chris Boyd, Joey Hildebrand, Jake Noordewier, Benjamin Buitema and Jack Zwiers all finished the game with one assist. Another strong suit for Grand Rapids Christian was their faceoff success. They won 77% of the faceoffs, and this was led by Graham Kormash. He was in the faceoff circle nineteen times, and he came away with seventeen victories.

With the victory, the Eagles are now in the regional finals. On Friday, they take on Forest Hills Northern/Eastern in the regional finals. This game will take place at Griff’s Ice House at 7:00. FHNE finished the year with a 16-7-3 record, and they needed four overtimes to defeat Portage Northern in the other regional finals on Wednesday night. These two teams played twice this year, splitting the decisions. In the first game, Grand Rapids Christian emerged victorious by a 4-3 margin. In the second game, which took place in the regular season finale, FHNE was able to defeat Grand Rapids Christian 1-0. The third game of the season series will be an incredible game on the rink once more, with the winner advancing to Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
