After a close win yesterday over Hancock, the Eagles played in their second game of the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase against Flint Powers Catholic. One of the top teams in Division 3, the Chargers were a tall task on paper for Grand Rapids Christian for Saturday afternoon. They were up to the task however, as a key second period goal was the difference in a 2-1 Eagles victory.

Two different Eagles lit the lamp in Saturday’s contest. Senior Kavanaugh Kane scored his sixth goal of the season, moving him into a three-way tie for third on the team in goals scored. Kane now has fifteen points on the year as well, also tied for third. The other goal was scored by Joey Hildebrand, his third of the year. Hildebrand also has five assists on the year, bringing his point total to eight.

After a remarkable two goal game yesterday, Ben Bultema added to his assist total on Saturday. He now has two assists to go along with six goals in eighteen games this year. Ashton Bol added to his impressive point total by assisting on both of the Eagles’ goals. He now has 15 assists and 21 points on the year, both team highs.

Drew Hoeksema was solid once again in the net for the Eagles. He tallied his third win of the season with a 20 save night. The Eagles’ faceoff unit improved from Friday, but they still only managed to win 53% of them. Alex Singh was the most successful for Grand Rapids Christian, racking up a 66.7% win rate.

With the victory, the Eagles improved to 9-8-1 on the season. They now maintain a winning record for the first time since they were 6-5 back on January 4. This week, a pair of conference games are on the slate for Grand Rapids Christian, one at home and one on the road. On Wednesday, the Eagles will travel to Mona Shores to take on the Sailors at Lakeshore Ice Arena. Two days later, Forest Hills Northern Eastern rolls into Eagles Ice Center to take on GRC in a pivotal conference match.
