The MHSAA Boys Basketball season was back at it again Friday night, amidst the snow and frigid temperatures in West Michigan. In some gyms across the area, the scoreboards were on fire as teams showed tremendous offensive output. In the mean streets of Ada, the Rangers of Forest Hills Central and East Grand Rapids Pioneers treated fans to a spectacular game that had 165 combined points. For the winner of that one, and all of the games across the area, check out the scores and summaries below:

Friday’s Game

Coopersville 58 Allendale 51

Zeeland West 69 Byron Center 48

Grandville 44 Caledonia 40

The Scots hosted Grandville in an OK Red matchup on Friday night. This game started with a very slow pace, as Grandville led 22-11 at the half. The Scots went on a very impressive 17-4 run in the third quarter to take a two point lead. A back and forth game in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were eventually able to hold on and secure the victory. Brian Banks led Caledonia with a career high 15 points, while Grandville got a 23 point game out of TJ Barnes. Caledonia now sits at 4-8 overall and 0-6 in the OK Red, while the Bulldogs are 5-6 and 2-2 in league play.

Cedar Springs 58 Greenville 40

Muskegon 69 Fruitport 24

East Kentwood 56 Grand Haven 50

The Falcons of East Kentwood and their fans braved the wind and snow to make the long trek to Grand Haven on Friday night. For the faithful that got to the game, they were rewarded to an incredible contest that went beyond the 32 scheduled minutes of game time. In the extra frame, the Falcons had enough going offensively to outscore the Bucs by six, improving their league record to 3-2. Kentwood leads the OK Conference in overtime games played (four), and their record in them is very impressive (3-1). In fact, all of their conference wins have needed the extra time, including a triple overtime win over Caledonia back on January 4. Grand Haven is now tied with EK at 3-2 in the Red, and they are both two games back of Hudsonville for first in the league at its halfway mark.

Grand Rapids Catholic Central 81 Spring Lake 54

Forest Hills Central 91 East Grand Rapids 74

The Rangers were the high scorers in the area on Friday night with their impressive 91 point output. This is tied for the second most-points in the OK Conference this season (FHN scored 94 against Greenville and they also scored 91 against Hudsonville). Coach Kyle Carhartt’s team scored the most for the Rangers program since they defeated Grandville 92-47 on February 10, 2015. That team, featuring a sophomore Xavier Tillman, went 23-1 before losing in the regional semifinals. Though they will have to get through FHN in district play, offensive outputs like this suggest that the Rangers have the weapons to make a playoff run this year.

Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian 57 Covenant Christian 54

South Christian 68 Forest Hills Eastern 53

The Sailors hosted FHE on Friday night, and they won their sixth straight game. They are now tied with Grand Rapids Christian in the OK Gold standings with a 5-1 league record. A complete summary of the game can be found here.

Holland Christian 65 Zeeland East 52

Forest Hills Northern 64 Northview 53

Undefeated and #1 team in the Remax-United Power Poll, the Huskies of Forest Hills Northern faced off with Northview in a game for first place of the OK White. Though the Wildcats made a handful of valiant charges to make this thing interesting throughout, FHN ultimately staved them off and held on for their fourteenth straight win of the season. Coach Joe Soules’ bunch is off to the hottest start in West Michigan, as they are the only undefeated team remaining. The leading scorers for the Huskies were Trent Summerfield with 16 and Caleb Gildner with 14. Cody Tierney led the way with Northview with 27.

Hopkins 87 Belding 39

Hudsonville 54 West Ottawa 48

Godwin Heights 69 Calvin Christian 47

The Wolverines continue to be one of the hottest teams in West Michigan. After a 1-5 start to the season, they have won all of their games since December 28 to improve to 9-5 on the year. They are now 6-0 in league play after a 22-point domination of Calvin Christian. Godwin Heights was written off by many after that sluggish start, but Coach Whittemore’s team appears to be clicking at the right time of the year. On the other side of the game, the Squires now fall to a losing record overall (5-6) and in the OK Silver (2-3).

Lowell 55 Ottawa Hills 44

Wayland Union 59 Grand Rapids Christian 53

In a big game in the OK Gold, the Wildcats of Wayland showed why they were receiving attention in the Remax-United Power Poll. An electric atmosphere at Wayland, a result of hosting the first place team in the league and its Coaches vs Cancer game, the Wildcats channeled the energy to will their way to victory. The game went to overtime, but senior Cory Ainsworth showed again why he is one of the best in the area, scoring 29 points to give Wayland its ninth win of the year. At 4-2 in OK Gold play, the Wildcats remain in the league title hunt. They are just one game behind Grand Rapids Christian and South Christian, who are both 5-1 at the halfway point of league play.

Jenison 53 Mona Shores 44

Tri-unity Christian 61 Kelloggsville 54
