The Michigan Sports Radio team was back in action on Friday night as the MHSAA Boys Basketball scene was back in action. There were over 20 games in our coverage area on Friday night, and scores and recaps of those games can be found below:

FRIDAY NIGHT SCORES

Forest Hills Eastern 55 Wayland 50

The Wildcats were one of the hottest teams in the area, having won seven of eight contests entering Friday night. They were unable to get past FHE, who now is 3-1 in league play.

Grand Rapids Christian 55 East Grand Rapids 41

The Eagles stay perfect in the OK Gold with a road victory over the Pioneers. These two teams were tied at 41 before Grand Rapids Christian ended the game on a 14-0 run. GRC now holds a one game lead in the OK Gold over Wayland, South Christian and FHE, while East falls to 2-3 in league play.

Lowell 69 Greenville 62 (OT)

The Red Arrows snapped a five game losing streak and picked up their first OK White victory of the year in overtime on Friday night in Greenville. The Yellowjackets have now lost six of seven, and they are still looking for their first league win.

West Ottawa 54 Caledonia 42

After a slow first quarter, West Ottawa led Caledonia 9-6. The Panthers dialed it up in the next two quarters, outscoring the Scots 36-19 to expand their lead to twenty points. A valiant charge in the fourth quarter brought this game within twelve, but never closer. Blake Pedersen led West Ottawa with twelve points, and Tanner Wiegerink chipped in nine. For Caledonia, Luke Thelen was the leading scorer with 15 points and Brian Banks scored six.

Forest Hills Central 56 Ottawa Hills 54

The Rangers escaped with a road win on Friday night thanks to two huge plays in the late seconds of the game. Mitch Wilkinson hit a huge three with six seconds to play to give the Rangers a two-point lead. On a final shot attempt for Ottawa Hills, the Rangers’ Jake Ball recorded a block to seal the victory. FHC is now 7-3 on the season, while Ottawa Hills falls to 1-6.

Rockford 55 East Kentwood 51

The Rams are now 4-0 in the OK Red after a tough victory on the road Friday night. With three of their four wins in league play coming on the road, Rockford is off to a fantastic start to win the league title. They continue their road trip on Tuesday again with a trip to Hudsonville. The Falcons will try and stay within striking distance in the standings when they take on Grandville next Tuesday.

The most-hyped game of the night lived up to its billing at the Holland Civic Center. The Huskies showed why they are ranked #1 in the Remax-United Power Poll with their road victory over Holland Christian. FHN is now 12-0 on the year, and next week they play the two other teams in the OK White with winning records, Forest Hills Central and Northview. Both of those games are at home.

After their 58-game winning streak in league play was snapped on Tuesday, the Big Reds were back in action at home on Friday. In another close OK Black matchup, a 12-0 run to end the game allowed Muskegon to win this one comfortably.

Northview 69 Cedar Springs 32

After trailing in the first quarter, Northview exploded for 22 second quarter points to take a commanding lead over Cedar Springs. They would never look back in this one, improving their OK White record to 5-0. A key to victory for Northview was converting at the free throw line, as they hit 25 free throws. Donavon Richardson led the way with 17 points for Northview, Cody Tierney chipped in 12 and freshman Kyler Vanderjagt added 9. Dawson Wood led the way for Cedar Springs with 16 points in the game.

Central Montcalm 61 Tri-County 57

Coopersville 66 Sparta 57

In a tough OK Blue battle, the Broncos got a big win over Sparta on Friday night. The senior leadership showed for Coopersville in this win. Chase Reckucki led the way with 17 points and Connor Helsen added 14 of his own. Both Nate Castenhotz and Vaughn VanTil scored 11 points in the victory. On the Sparta side, Randy Tramper and Conner West each scored 12 points on the night.

 

WHAT’S ON TAP?

There is still basketball left this week as the Floyd Mayweather Classic takes place at Ottawa Hills tomorrow. On Tuesday, the majority of the OK Conference is back in action for another round of league play. The MSR team will be there across the area covering basketball, and providing a round-up for Wednesday morning.
