The Michigan Sports Radio team is ramping up our basketball coverage as we turn into the new year. In addition to our weekly broadcasts LIVE on our website, we have started to unveil the Remax-United Power Poll each Monday morning to rank the top teams in our coverage area. A new feature starting today is going to be our Basketball Round-Up. Each Wednesday and Saturday, we will provide scores and select recaps from the previous night’s action, as well as look ahead to upcoming action. Mother Nature shrank the slate of games yesterday, but there are still some final scores to report.

Tuesday Night Final Scores

Holland Christian (8-1) 59 Byron Center (2-7) 38

Vince Overway led the way for the Maroons as they continue their hot start. He led all scorers with 19 points as Holland Christian had little trouble on the road Tuesday night.

Hudsonville (9-2) 71 East Kentwood (6-4) 47

The Eagles won big over Kentwood in an OK Red showdown. They got big contributions out of Max Perez and Stone Smeenge, as they both scored 16 points. The Eagles are now 3-1 in OK Red play.

Grand Rapids Christian (8-1) 76 Wyoming (3-6) 51

Hamilton (5-5) 65 Zeeland East (1-9) 55

Zeeland West (7-2) 59 Holland (5-5) 43

Fruitport (2-7) 71 Holton (4-5) 51

The Trojans snapped a six-game losing streak with a non-conference win over Holton on Tuesday. Fruitport had not won since their December 4 game against Whitehall. This is a huge confidence boost for a team that must face both Reeths-Puffer and Muskegon in the next ten days.

Reeths-Puffer (10-1) 63 Muskegon (4-3) 59 (OT)

The Big Reds had won 58 consecutive league games prior to last night’s shocking upset. This proves that the Rockets are as legitimate as their 10-1 start would indicate.

Godwin Heights (7-5) 74 Wyoming Lee (1-8) 24

After a tough non-conference slate, the Wolverines are on a roll. They have dominated OK Silver competition, winning all four league games by an average of 23.3 points.

Newaygo (7-2) 74 Grant (5-5) 60

Football star Connor Swinehart led the way for Newaygo, scoring 27 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Noah Cantu also chipped in twenty points for the Lions, who are now 4-2 in conference play. They capitalized on a 9-0 run to start this game, as they would never look back. Grant, led by Carter Chase’s 23 points, is now 3-3 in league play.

Due to the weather yesterday, there are a handful of games on Wednesday  in the MSR Coverage area. The typical Friday slate, and a quadruple header of action Saturday leads to a full week of basketball.
