In the eighth week of the season, Tri-County’s program had an opportunity to do something they hadn’t done since 2010. This one was a battle between the star running backs for each team, all night long but the Vikings pulled off the win over Central Montcalm with Tanner Ching leading the pack. The 44-30 victory puts Tri-County at four wins, the most it has had since 2010.

Tri-County started off hot in this one with a Nick Braunschneider 51 yard touchdown pass to Cam Friend. The failed two-point conversion kept the Vikings on top, 6-0.

Central Montcalm retaliated during the second quarter when Andrew Johnson found Teague Stander for a 20 yard touchdown pass tying up the game at six. Tanner Ching put the Vikings back on top, with his 4 yard touchdown run and a successful two-point conversion gave the Vikings a 14-6 lead at half.

After a field goal for the Vikings, Ching would find the end zone again, this time from 7 yards out, to give Tri-County a 24-8 advantage. Stander’s 15 yard touchdown run brought the Hornets within ten heading into the final quarter.

Ching started the 4th quarter off with two touchdowns, one for 20 yards and the other from 2 yards out, giving Tri-County a 36-14 lead. After a  trick play from Central Montcalm gave them another touchdown, it was Ching again from 51 yards out to expand the lead to 44-22. A touchdown on the final play of the game brought the Hornets to a more respectable 44-30 defeat.

The Core Power Player of the Game was Tanner Ching, finishing the night with 33 carries for 239 yards and 5 touchdowns. Tri-County now sits at 4-4 on the season, and they have a chance to get their first winning season since 2005 if they can defeat the 5-3 Red Devils of Holton. This game will be broadcast LIVE on Michigan Sports Radio.
