The West Catholic Falcons and Allendale Falcons each entered Friday night’s game at 3-3 on the season. With OK Blue and playoff implications at stake, this game was crucial for both teams. West Catholic had double-digit leads multiple times throughout this contest, but they ultimately held on for a 45-42 victory.
In the first quarter, Jack Schichtel started the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run. They extended their lead to fourteen points as Zach Patin ran it in from twenty yards out. Patin had another strong night as he had sixteen carries for 133 yards and a touchdown.
The second quarter saw a touchdown both ways as Owen Burk scored Allendale’s first touchdown of the night with a nine-yard run. West Catholic responded with a four yard run by Matt Bilski. It was a season-high effort for Bilski as he had fifteen carries for 96 yards and a touchdown. This left the Falcons ahead 21-7 at halftime.
Both teams scored fourteen points in the third quarter. Spencer Zobro took to the air and found Nick Dorato for a 14 yard touchdown pass. Zobro also tallied a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. For Allendale, Owen Burk ran two times for a touchdown from one and two yards out. This left the score 35-21 heading into the final quarter.
West Catholic started the fourth quarter with ten straight points as Schichtel scored his second touchdown of the night to expand the lead to 45-21. The Allendale Falcons never gave up in this one, as they would get three straight touchdowns from star Owen Burk. He had an eight yard run and touchdown catches of fifteen and sixty-three yards. Burk showed why he is one of the area’s best players as he scored all six touchdowns and totaled 285 yards on the ground.
With the victory, West Catholic improved to 4-3 on the year. They will have a huge game next week on the road at Grand Rapids Catholic Central in a game that will decide the OK Blue championship. For Allendale, they are now 3-4 on the year. Their playoff hunt will be on the line next week when they take on Spring Lake.
