The Freeland Falcons continued their pursuit of a postseason berth this Friday when they took on Midland Bullock Creek. After the Lancers got out to an early lead, Freeland had strong middle quarters to emerge victorious in this one 37-20.

In the first quarter, Freeland started the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run by Layne Moergelli. Bullock Creek would respond before the quarter ended as Gabe Gasser’s one yard rush gave the Lancers a one-point lead.

Bullock Creek extended their lead at the start of the second quarter as Tyler Chapman broke a 63-yard touchdown. The Freeland Falcons found themselves in a familiar position playing from behind, and they once again played poised and controlled to come back in this one.

Moergelli’s second touchdown rush of the game from two yards out, coupled with a two-point conversion, gave Freeland a 14-13 lead. They would expand their lead to nine points before the halftime as quarterback Ben Wellnitz rushed for nine yards. The two-point conversion was a run by Juan Guerra to give the Falcons a 22-13 edge.

In the third quarter, Freeland continued their run. Moergelli ran it in from twelve yards out and he also converted on the two point conversion on their first scoring drive. Wellnitz took to the air for Freeland’s last touchdown of the contest as he found Carston Yaw on a 56-yard pass.

The fourth quarter saw only one touchdown, a 22-yard pass for Bullock Creek from Brendan Milligan to Nick Lashury. This pulled Bullock Creek within seventeen, but it would end that way. The 37-20 victory was Freeland’s 11th straight against Bullock Creek. The Falcons improve to 5-1 on the year and they will be back in action next week against Alma. For Bullock Creek, the Lancers slide to 2-4 on the year. Next week, they take on Shepherd.
