The Spring Lake Lakers have surprised many this year with their 3-0 start. This week, they extended their surprisingly hot start by recording their fourth straight victory to open the year with a 38-8 lead over Coopersville. Spring Lake is 4-0 on the year for the first time since 2010.
Coopersville scored first in this contest as Cayden Schneider started the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run to put the Broncos ahead by eight. This was the touchdown that they would get in this contest, as Spring Lake would score the next thirty eight points.
Mitch Payne started the scoring for Spring Lake as he ran in a four yard touchdown. He would find the end zone again early in the second quarter from six yards out. They would hold a 24-8 lead heading into the locker room.
The second half saw just two touchdowns, both third quarter touchdowns by the Lakers. They had little trouble moving the ball in this victory.
In the loss, Coopersville was led by Vaughn VanTil. He rushed 15 times for 74 yards, and he also was 12 for 25 for 107 yards. Cayden Schneider also had thirteen carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Coopersville now sits at 1-3 on the year, with an 0-2 record in the OK Blue. The slate does not get any easier next week when they hit the road to take on Grand Rapids Catholic Central. For Spring Lake, they will look to continue their hot start when they take on Comstock Park.
