For the fifth consecutive season, the Sailors and the Rams played in a big non-conference matchup. This year, the teams entered this contest heading in opposite directions. Mona Shores is 3-0 and the Rams are 1-2 on the season with a pair of tough losses. This game was pivotal for the Rams in their pursuit of the postseason as they still have a tough OK Red slate ahead. Unfortunately for Rockford, they were unable to overcome a large start by Mona Shores in a 33-14 defeat.

In the first quarter neither team scored, but there was a tremendous display of defense by Rockford. They stopped two Sailors’ scoring drives by making big plays. On Mona Shores’ first drive, the Sailors threw an interception around midfield. Near the end of the first quarter, they blocked a 40 yard field goal try.

Mona Shores started the scoring in the second quarter when senior Caiden Morin was on the receiving end of a 19-yard pass from Caden Broersma. Just before the first half concluded, the Sailors struck again. Broersma used his legs this time to rush for a three-yard touchdown to give Mona Shores a 14-0 halftime lead.

On their first drive of the second half, Mona Shores again found the end zone. Sincere Dent broke a 64-yard run to give Mona Shores a 21-0 advantage. Connor White finally broke the scoring drought for the Rams when he scored a 15 yard touchdown run to cut the lead to fourteen. The Sailors scored again on a 55-yard Dent touchdown to give them the 28-7 lead after three.

In the fourth quarter, the teams exchanged touchdowns. Connor White again found the end zone, this time from eight yards out. With 5:40 to go, Sincere Dent rushed 11 yards for a touchdown to put the Sailors up 19 for good. With the win, Mona Shores improves to 4-0 on the year. Next week, they will continue OK Black action when they take on Kenowa Hills. The Rams are 1-3 on the year, and they now have a crucial stretch of games. This begins next week when they take on Grand Haven.
