On Friday night at Memorial Field, the #1 ranked Muskegon Big Reds visited East Grand Rapids, the #10 ranked team in the Remax-United Power Poll. After East got an early lead, the Big Reds offense exploded. They went on to win this one 49-21 to extend their winning streak to seventeen.

The Pioneers got off to a hot start in this one as John Shelton continued his hot play with a two yard touchdown run. Jalen Broussard took to the air on their next drive and he found John Sheridan for a 35-yard connection to give East Grand Rapids a 14-0 lead.

Muskegon finally got on the board as quarterback Cameron Martinez ran it in from three yards out. At the 5:47 mark in the second quarter, John Shelton’s nine-yard run gave them a 21-7 lead. This would be the last touchdown that the Pioneers would muster in the game, as Muskegon would score 42 consecutive points.

Cameron Martinez scored two more touchdowns, a fifty-seven yard rush in the third and a 38-yard pass in the fourth quarter. Hyrosha Wilson also found the end zone twice, on runs of thirty-five and fifty-three yards.

The Big Reds’ victory improves their record to 3-0 on the season. They begin OK Black play next week against the Knights of Kenowa Hills. For East Grand Rapids, they now sit at 1-2 on the year. They will begin OK Gold play at home against Forest Hills Eastern. There is a slim margin for error for the Pioneers to make the postseason.
