Last week, two of West Michigan’s top programs Rockford and Lowell, were both handily defeated in their season openers. This week, they squared off in the Pink Arrow Game in Lowell tonight and it was never close. After a scoreless first quarter, the Rams dominated scoring all 37 points in the contest.

Midway through the second quarter, Drew Bareno found Cade Klinczak for a touchdown to give the Rams a 7-0 lead. They would score three more before the break as Teagen Lenderink chipped in a 28 yard field goal.

Jaden Friesen started the second half scoring when he ran it in from eighteen yards out halfway through the third quarter. With ninety seconds left in the third, Rockford struck again as Jack Richardson scored from three yards out to extend the lead to 23-0.

In the fourth quarter, Rockford continued to tack onto their lead. Kip Cushman hauled in his first touchdown catch of the year from 28 yards out. Later, Chris Corey finished the scoring for the Rams as he ran in a twelve yard touchdown to extend the lead to 37 and start the running clock.

This will be Lowell’s first 0-2 start since 1993 when they opened the year with losses to Ionia and Northview. Tonight also marked the first time that Lowell had been held scoreless in a game since 2014. In that contest, the Red Arrows lost 33-0 and I roamed the playing field for the host Caledonia Fighting Scots.

Rockford will get back to .500 with this win, and next week they begin OK Red play with a huge game. They host the defending league champion Panthers of West Ottawa, who are 2-0 including an incredible win over FHC on Thursday night. This game will be broadcast LIVE on Michigan Sports Radio next Friday night.
