The South Christian Sailors and Greenville Yellowjackets opened their 2018 campaign with a contest at Legacy Field in Greenville. From the start, South Christian was in control of this contest. They opened up a lead of 40 points before Greenville scored to make the final margin a bit closer, a 40-14 defeat.

Two minutes into the contest, quarterback Luke Schrotenboer found Peyton Vis for a 33-yard reception to give South a 7-0 edge. Three minutes later, the Sailors found the end zone as Eli Smith ran for 20 yards to expand the lead to 14.

In the second quarter, the scoring continued for the Sailors as Evan Roedema hauled in a nine-yard touchdown score. Just a couple minutes before the half, Luke Schrotenboer rushed for 26 yards to give the Sailors a 27-0 edge as the teams entered the locker room.

The defense of the Sailors reached out and scored in the third quarter as Cam Huyser returned an interception to the end zone. Schrotenboer would finish the night’s scoring for South in the third quarter as he found Vis for a 61-yard strike to give them a 40-0 advantage.

Greenville would respond with a pair of touchdowns to draw the margin closer at the end of the game. Carter Dood’s kickoff following the touchdown was returned by Ryan Olsen for 85 yards. In the fourth quarter, Jake Rasmussen caught a 27-yard pass for a touchdown.

With the win, the Sailors improve to 1-0. Next week, they will take on Benton Harbor. For Greenville, they fall to 0-1, and they will take on Allendale next week.
