For the fifteenth straight season, the Allendale Falcons and the Unity Christian Crusaders began their campaigns squaring off against each other. After falling behind by three touchdowns, the Crusaders came all the way back to win their fifth straight in the series by a 38-31 final score.

In the first half, Allendale jumped out to a three touchdown lead thanks to exquisite play by Owen Burk. The first quarter saw Burk rush for a pair of touchdowns, from four and one yards out respectively. He then was on the receiving end of a seventy yard touchdown reception to give Allendale a 21-0 lead.

Five minutes into the second quarter, Unity Christian recovered a muffed punt and took it to the end zone. Malekhi Obande converted the two-point conversion to trim the lead to 21-8. A quarterback keeper by Isaac TeSlaa from five yards out cut the lead to 21-15 at the break.

In the second half, Hayden Large’s seven yard carry put the Crusaders in front for the first time. This would be short lived however, as Jimmy Wiersma connected on a field goal to give Allendale a 24-22 lead headed into the final quarter.

Large once again found the end zone to start the fourth quarter as he ran fifty-eight yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion put the Crusaders in front 30-24. Obande found the end zone a few minutes later with a 59-yard touchdown run, and the two-point try expanded the lead to fourteen points.

Burk found the end zone for a fourth time on a fifty-one yard run to cut the lead to seven, but they would not draw any closer. The Crusaders are 1-0 on the year, and next week they take on Godwin Heights. Allendale, at 0-1 on the year, will try to get in the win column next week against Greenville.
