The Hudsonville Eagles and Northview Wildcats each entered their Friday night contest struggling. The Eagles had lost three in a row, while the Wildcats were still looking for their first win of the 2017 campaign. A team that had struggled with offense through the first five games, Hudsonville was averaging 10.4 points per game, they finally came out of their shell a bit, breaking the 20-point plateau for the first time all season. Hudsonville got enough production Friday night to walk away with a 28-13 victory.

Northview opened the scoring in this one as Kennedy Smith and Cody Tierney connected on a 71-yard touchdown strike halfway through the first quarter. The Eagles would bounce back at the end of the first quarter as Matt Dow scored on a 20-yard touchdown run to knot the score up at seven.

In the second quarter, Hudsonville struck first as Dow rushed for an eight yard touchdown to give them a 14-7 lead. This was a lead that the Eagles would never relinquish. Northview scored the only other touchdown in the second quarter, but their extra point try was unsuccessful leaving them behind 14-13 at the halftime.

The second half was a strong display of defense by the Eagles as they held Northview scoreless. On offense, they got a pair of rushing touchdowns. Brice Herrema and Austin Anes scored from five and ten yards respectively to expand the margin to its final place, 28-13.

With the win, Hudsonville improves to 2-4 on the season, meaning that they will need to win out to have a chance at the postseason. This pursuit starts next week when they travel to Caledonia. For Northview, they drop to 0-6 on the season, and they will host Greenville next Friday night.
