Eighteen points. In the third game of the season, the Catholic Central Cougars gave up eighteen points in a 56-18 victory over Allendale. While this is a strong performance, it looks very weak compared to the other four contests. In a pair of contests against teams from Detroit (Country Day and Loyola), the Cougars allowed a combined fifteen points. In its last two games, against Forest Hills Eastern and this week against Spring Lake, the Cougars have yielded zero points. In five games, the Cougars have now outscored their opponents 207-33, including a 47-0 win on Friday against Spring Lake.

On offense, the Cougars were led by a pair of stars. Aidan Burns scored two touchdowns on two catches of twenty-three and sixty yards. The second offensive player to score a pair of touchdowns was running back Nolan Fugate. In Friday’s contest, Fugate scored on a 55 yard run and a twenty yard reception.

Kicker Alec Winden showed why he is one of the area’s best as he made a pair of field goals from 35 and 40 yards. The final scoring from Catholic Central was the second half’s only scoring play, a four yard run by Nate Stickler, his second straight week with a touchdown.

The Cougars have dominated their opponents this season, and with a loss by East Kentwood to Grandville, they may be due for a rise in the Remax-United Power Poll. The 5-0 Catholic Central team will aim for their third league win when they host the Spartans of Sparta. For Spring Lake, they now fall to 0-5 on the season, and they have only scored 21 points combined in these games. Next week, they will look for their first win when they travel to Coopersville.
