The West Catholic Falcons, four-time defending Division 5 State Champions, entered Friday’s contest at 2-1, but were barely garnering any votes in the Remax-United Power Poll. This week, when they took on the Lakers of Spring Lake, they mad a statement that they deserve to be ranked next week as they dominated and shut them out 41-0.

Quarterback Gaetano Vallone wasted no time in scoring, as it took under two minutes for him to find Nick Dorato for a 11-yard touchdown. Just six minutes later, this tandem connected yet again, this time from 40 yards to expand the lead to 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, Vallone struck again, as he found Alex Fortier for a twenty-two yard touchdown strike. He would finish tonight’s contest 11 of 23 for 182 yards and three touchdowns. He was also the team’s second leading rusher with 40 yards on six carries.

The leading rusher for the Falcons was Alex Fortier, who used a 28-yard third quarter touchdown run to springboard himself to an eight carry, sixty-seven yard day. The West Catholic offense racked up 350 yards, nearly doubling up the Lakers (179). In the special teams facet of the game, Connor Bolthouse scored a touchdown on a 65-yard punt return.

After their third straight victory, the Falcons hold the OK Blue lead with a 2-0 league record. Next week, they will host the Broncos of Coopersville. For Spring Lake, they are now 0-4, and next week is no easier as they face Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
