The Freeland Falcons won their twenty-fourth consecutive regular season game Friday night, when they topped Shepherd 42-20. Things looked good on the first drive as the Falcons drove all the way to the Shepherd ten-yard line. The drive then stalled, but they would get their points just a few plays later. When Shepherd lined up to punt, the Falcons got a block and Jacob Foco scooped it up and took it to the end zone for a touchdown. They would take a 13-0 lead on a Foco pass to Tyler Shea, but the Bluejays responded with a late touchdown to cut the lead to 13-7 at the break.

On the first drive of the second half, Freeland drove the length of the field before fumbling the ball out of the end zone. The next play from scrimmage (after a penalty) was a beautiful 85-yard connection from Michael Lator to Johnny Lynch, giving Shepherd a 14-13 lead.

This lead would not last long, as the Falcons would rattle off 29 consecutive points to take a commanding lead. Garrett Mehtiva scored on a two yard run, and Foco found Mackenzie Strobbel for a touchdown in the third quarter. In the final quarter, Freeland’s points came as a result of two long runs from Layne Morgeli and Carston Yaw.

With the win, Freeland improves to 3-0 on the season, 2-0 in the Tri Valley-Central. Next week, they hit the road to face Swan Valley, a team that has looked very strong at times this season. This could be the biggest test for the Falcons in the conference season.
