A season ago, the Coopersville Broncos and Fruitport Trojans faced off in the season opener. The Broncos won 36-13, and started the year unbeaten. On Thursday night, these two squared off again, and for the second year in a row Coopersville will start 1-0, as they emerged victorious 35-12.
Things started fast for the Coopersville offense as Cayden Schneider burst through the defense for a 62-yard touchdown run. Schneider would finish the night with a pair of touchdowns, as his second score in the fourth quarter capped off the scoring.
Quarterback Riley Johnson, a strong player a year ago, also added a pair of touchdowns through the air in this game, as he struck for 57 and 47 yard touchdowns. This game was never quite close, as Coopersville was in control from the start. This was a strong first game for head coach Ed Kaman, who improves to 1-0 as the head coach of Coopersville.
The Broncos start 1-0 for the second straight season, and this year they hope to change the result of the final eight games, as last year they lost eight in a row. They will be back in action at home next week as they take on the Hawkeyes of Hamilton, who were defeated by Godwin Heights in their season opener.
