After a pair of hard fought battles on the gridiron this fall, Rockford and Hudsonville delivered another epic installment of their rivalry on the hardwood on Friday night. Hudsonville, who led for a majority of this game, earned their fifth straight victory after regaining the lead late on a three pointer with 4.8 seconds to go by Aidan Magsig. After the make, Rockford pushed the ball down the floor, but Jason Majerle’s game-winning attempt was off to the left, and the Eagles held on for the 58-57 win.

The Rams played another strong game tonight, but with a loss they drop to 1-6 on the season. Senior guard Teague Farley led Rockford in scoring with eighteen points, and a handful of his six three-point field goals stopped key Hudsonville runs. Another senior, Ryan Gamm, also chipped in eighteen points, but his effort on the defensive end on Brady Boothe was a bigger key in their success tonight. Boothe, who was MVP of the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament, had to work hard for his twelve points tonight, as Gamm played tough defense on the junior forward.

All seven Eagles who checked into Friday night’s contest scored, and three of them finished in double figures. Along with twelve from Brady Boothe, senior guard Jack Mandryk led the way with sixteen points, including six in the fourth quarter. Senior Aidan Magsig finished with fifteen points in Friday’s win, twelve of which were scored from beyond the arc.

With the win, Hudsonville moves to 1-0 in the OK Red, and 5-2 overall. The Eagles are currently riding a five game winning streak. Rockford, who has been tested early and often throughout the season, falls to 1-6 on the season, and 0-1 in the OK Red. Next week, Hudsonville will host Holland West Ottawa on Tuesday, before travelling to Grandville on Friday night. For Rockford, they will have Tuesday off, and then continue league play on Friday when they host Holland West Ottawa.
