West Catholic is the three-time defending Division 5 State Champion, and they have appeared in four consecutive State Championship games. In all three of their championship runs, the Falcons had to go through the Cougars of Lansing Catholic. Tonight, they cleared this hurdle early as they took care of Lansing Catholic in the first round 28-7.

Kicker Liam Putz, who has been a strong kicker throughout the season for West Catholic, connected on a pair of field goals from 34 and 47 yards in the first half.

The quarterback tandem of David Fox and Gaetano Vallone each accounted for a score, as Fox ran for a touchdown in the first half, and Vallone passed for one in the second half. West Catholic’s defense also chipped in as two-way player Sam Neville intercepted a pass and returned it to the house for a score.

With the win, West Catholic advances to the MHSAA Division 5 Region 3 District 1 Finals where they will take on Portland, who has been ranked as high as the number one team in Division 5 this season. This game next week will be broadcasted LIVE here on MSR.
