Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Rockford Rams had already clinched a share of the OK Red Conference Championship, and there was a possibility for a three way tie to occur if both Hudsonville and Grandville emerged victorious, while also the possibility of a two-way tie if Hudsonville and West Ottawa emerged victorious. After Grandville was up 20-0 early on West Ottawa, en route to a convincing victory, it was up to the Eagles to gift us the three way tie. Despite a slow start offensively, senior quarterback Jack Mandryk scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to carry Hudsonville to the OK Red crown.

Nick Isley scored a second quarter rushing touchdown to give the Rams the early lead, the only touchdown of the first half in an impressive display of defense by both teams. After a shutout third quarter, Mandryk took the battle into his own hands and he scored on a seven yard run with just under eleven minutes left to play to cut the lead to 7-6.

With just two minutes left to play, the Eagles had the ball and Mandryk once again used his legs to make a big play and he scored on a ten yard run. After a successful two point conversion, the Eagles led by seven. The Rams got the ball back, but could not respond and Hudsonville emerged victorious.

The 2016 OK Red season concludes with a trio of 5-1 teams, as Grandville, Hudsonville and Rockford all share the league title. Both Hudsonville (8-1) and Rockford (6-3) will be in the postseason next Friday, and the Eagles will certainly host a playoff game, while Rockford’s fate is yet to be determined.
