In their first season in the OK Gold, East Grand Rapids has already left their mark, as they completed an undefeated league slate, capped off by a 49-21 win over South Christian Friday night, to clinch the outright OK Gold Championship.

The Pioneers struck early in this one, as they got good field possession on their first drive of the game and turned it into six points. A special teams miscue allowed for the Sailors to tie the contest, but after that, it was never close again. The East Grand Rapids offense struck for four unanswered touchdowns to widen the gap to 35-7. After South had scored and regained possession, Jack Combs intercepted the Sailors and returned it to the house to permanently put the game to rest. Combs also sparked the offense with a sixty-five yard receiving touchdown earlier in the contest.

This is the first outright conference title for the Pioneers since their undefeated OK White campaign in 2010, and at 7-2 on the season, they will have a strong chance of hosting a game in the first round of the playoffs next week. For South Christian, they failed to achieve the victory needed to guarantee a bowl berth, but at 5-4 there is a slight possibility.
