Grand Haven hosted their homecoming festivities Friday night as the East Kentwood Falcons came to town. An early touchdown, paired with two defensive scores spoiled the fun festivities however as the Falcons won 24-9.

Just sixty-two seconds into the game, quarterback Evan Mayday found a wide open receiver for a 28 yard touchdown to put East Kentwood in front 7-0. The defense scored on the final play of the first quarter as they forced a fumble and returned it 65 yards to the end zone to put the Falcons in front 14-0.

In the second quarter, the lone scoring play was a 40 yard field goal by East Kentwood as they entered the locker room ahead by seventeen. Grand Haven chipped away at the lead by scoring the only touchdown of the third quarter to cut the lead to 17-6.

On the second play of the fourth quarter, with the Bucs in plus territory, their pass was deflected and then intercepted and returned 59 yards for a touchdown to put the game out of reach. Grand Haven tacked on a late field goal on the leg of Brady Jonas, but it did little other than change the final margin of victory as EK won the contest by fifteen.

With the loss, Grand Haven has been eliminated from the postseason dropping to 2-5 on the year, while East Kentwood now sits at 4-3 with two games left to play. Next week, Grand Haven runs into Hudsonville, while the Falcons will take on Rockford in pursuit of a playoff berth.
