West Catholic emerged victorious yet again Friday night, this time a 35-0 shutout win over Coopersville. The OK Blue favorites started off slow before a large second quarter propelled them to their sixteenth consecutive conference victory.
After a first quarter in which neither team scored, the West Catholic Falcons started off the second quarter with a quick touchdown strike from quarterback David Fox. Just sixty-nine seconds of game play passed before Sam Neville intercepted the pass and returned it to the end zone for the game’s second touchdown, putting West Catholic in front 14-0.
The Falcon offense continued to score in the second quarter as they got two more big passes from Fox, a 73 yard strike to Myers followed by a 60 yard bomb to Sam Neville with just six second remaining in the half to put the Falcons up 28-0 headed into the locker room.
West Catholic scored just one touchdown in the second half, a nine yard pass from Fox to Hall, their second scoring connection of the evening. The defense played tremendous as they pitched their first shutout of the season, their first since last October against Sparta.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the OK-Blue, tied with Catholic Central for the lead in terms of the loss column, placing them a half game in front of Sparta and Allendale. Coopersville drops to 1-4 with the loss, and the postseason seems like a longshot for the Broncos.
