On Friday night, the East Grand Rapids Pioneers tried to even the OK Gold lead with Grand Rapids Christian when they took on the Wyoming Wolves. After some early hiccups, East Grand Rapids scored the game’s final twenty-eight points to top the Wolves 35-14.

Wyoming opened the scoring with a touchdown and a two point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over the Pioneers, but quarterback Mike Malewitz used his legs to bring the game within one.

Trailing 14-7, East Grand Rapids took to the ground as they used the legs of Hub Henja to erase the Wyoming lead, and eventually taking a 28-14 lead into the locker room.

Mike Malewitz led the East Grand Rapids offense Friday night as he accounted for three touchdowns, one with his legs and two with his arm. Hub Henja scored two touchdowns on three and twelve yard runs as the Pioneers improved to 3-2 under the direction of first-year coach Casey Longo.

Next week, East Grand Rapids will face Grand Rapids Christian, who is also 2-0 in the league, in a battle of first place in the OK Gold. For Wyoming, the Wolves drop to 3-2 on the year, and they will take on Middleville.
