This week, in perhaps the most anticipated non-conference matchup of the regular season, defending Division 4 State Champion Zeeland West, winners of sixteen in a row, hosted the defending Division 5 State Champion West Catholic Falcons, winners of thirteen straight contests. These two offenses, primarily run oriented and high scoring, proposed an entertaining high scoring affair on paper, and for the Dux, they did not disappoint. Zeeland West controlled the line of scrimmage and time of possession, scoring thirty eight points in a convincing sixteen point win.

The Dux had four different players score running touchdowns in Friday night’s game as Drake Fincannon, Hunter Blauwkamp, Tucker Martinez and Alonzo Delarosa all crossed the goal line on the ground, and it was another great display of the effectiveness of their power running game. Blauwkamp also used his arm to find Connor Chupailo in the end zone for a 24 yard touchdown strike, staging off West Catholic’s best chance at a comeback.

For the Falcons, quarterback David Fox had another strong outing as he accounted for all three touchdowns, two on the ground and one in the air. They were within striking defense until a late third quarter touchdown by Zeeland West’s Hunter Blauwkamp put the Dux up sixteen, a margin that the Falcons could not overcome.

For Zeeland West, they showed that they are a consensus top three team in West Michigan (Muskegon and Lowell), and they have a high chance to enter the postseason undefeated as the OK Green champions. Next week, the Dux will travel to Unity Christian in their first league contest. West Catholic will open the OK Blue portion of their schedule next Friday as they host Spring Lake.
