Throughout the high school football season, the Michigan Sports Radio team will be selecting players who performed well enough to be selected Core Power Impact Players of the Week. Previous week’s selections can be found at the bottom of the page.
The Week 2 Selections:
Anders Leine (Tri-County): The Vikings were winners in Week 2 in a 14-13 come from behind win over Central Montcalm. Both touchdowns came from the arm of Leine, and his seventy yard strike with 4:40 to play ended up being the game-winning touchdown.
David Fox (West Catholic): The Falcons offense was explosive against Muskegon Heights and Fox was strong under center, throwing for four touchdowns. He was nine of sixteen for 193 yards in the win.
David Kruse (Lowell): In the season’s first two weeks, Lowell has two wins against perennial state powers including this week’s win against Rockford. A big amount of the success can be attributed to quarterback David Kruse, who scored twice in Friday’s win. Kruse also used his feet on a key 35 yard run to keep a drive alive, continuing to prove himself as a consistent dual-threat quarterback.
Donnie Burritello (Wyoming): In Wyoming’s big win over Comstock Park, they were led on the ground by Burritello. He rushed for 162 yards and four touchdowns on 27 carries in the 38-7 win. The Wolves are 2-0 for the first time since 2012.
Jack Mandyrk (Hudsonville): The senior quarterback/safety played a large role in Hudsonville’s blow out victory over Holt. Mandryk scored the game’s first three touchdowns, two in the air and one on the ground. On the defensive side, the Eagles held Holt to just seven points.
Max Kubiak (Freeland): The Falcons used a heavy workload on the ground (397 total yards rushing as a team) to defeat Chesaning on Thursday night. Though all three running backs could be deserving, Kubiak led the charge as he ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
