After a¬†loss to Lakeview last week, Tri-County looked to bounce back this week as they visited Central Montcalm, who also entered without a win. Tri-County scored the game’s final fourteen points, the last a seventy yard strike from Anders Leine to Tyler Whitney for the game-winning touchdown in a 14-13 victory.

Central Montcalm got on the board in the second quarter with a twenty yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the Hornet defense forced a fumble and returned it sixty yards for a touchdown. A crucial error in failing the extra point left Central Montcalm up 13-0 with 6:30 left.

Tri-County responded on their next drive as Anders Leine tossed a 43 yard pass to Gavin Mackenzie late in the third quarter to cut the lead to 13-6.

With less than five minutes to play, Tri-County got the football back still trailing by seven. Leine and the Vikings hit the air again as he found Tyler Whitney who scored on a seventy-yard passing play. Trailing 13-12, the Vikings opted to line up for a two-point try to take the lead rather than attempt a game-tying extra point. Leine again found Whitney, this time for a successful conversion, giving the Vikings a 14-13 lead.

Tri-County held on for a one point win, improving their record to 1-1, and starting their league record at 1-0. The Vikings will play their second league game next week as they host Big Rapids Friday night. Central Montcalm now sits at 0-2 on the season, and they will look for their first win when they travel to Grant.
