Last fall, Jackson Lumen Christi and West Catholic met in the season opener. These two played a very close game that Lumen Christi took 22-21. This year, these schools met again in Week 1, but the Falcons make a large statement in a 30-13 victory.

On the opening possession of the game, West Catholic marched down the field but turned the ball over inside the three yard line. Lumen Christi returned the favor as they fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a safety, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead. On the ensuing free kick, Connor Bolthouse ran 75 yards for a score to expand the lead to nine.

The turnover woes continued for Lumen Christi as they would toss an interception early in the drive. Two plays later, Alex Fortier scored from two yards out and West Catholic led 16-0. On their next possession, the Falcons scored and converted the two point conversion to blow out the lead even more. West Catholic led 27-0 at the half.

Things slowed in the second half as West Catholic was outscored 13-3, though one score was a garbage touchdown with less than two minutes to play. The line play was huge for West Catholic as they recorded seven sacks on defense while opening big holes for the run game.

West Catholic sits at 1-0 to open the season and next week they will hit the road again to take on Muskegon Heights.
