Christmas break has come and gone, and the 2018 year is upon us. Although the temperatures are cold outside, things are heating up across gyms in West Michigan as conference play began this past week. The 2017 MHSAA high school football season has come and gone, and the Michigan Sports Radio staff has been there every step of the way. For fourteen straight weeks, teams battled it out for the ultimate opportunity to crown eight State Champions. The Remax-United Power Poll ranked the top ten teams in the area throughout the entire season. Twice is Nice: Catholic Central Repeats as Division 4 State Champions

For Todd Kolster’s bunch, the only way to improve on that season was by running the table and completing an undefeated season in 2017. West Catholic Overcomes Twenty-One Point Deficit in Semis

After a close win a week ago against Portland, the Falcons of West Catholic entered Saturday’s semifinal one win away from their sixth straight trip to Ford Field. The four-time reigning Division 5 State Champions had a large scare early in this game, but they rallied by scoring twenty-five unanswered points to reach the title game yet again. Catholic Central Clinches Return Trip to Ford Field

Their opponent, the Eskymos of Escanaba, were one of those eighteen wins, as they fell victim to Catholic Central back in the regional round of 2016. Much like that matchup, the Cougars had little difficulty in winning this contest, advancing to Ford Field with a 24-0 victory.
