West Michigan sends 3 teams to M.S.U. for Boys State Semi Finals

The West Michigan Area has representation in Class A, B, and C semifinal games at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center. The West Ottawa Panthers in Class A, The GR Catholic Cougars in Class B, and the GR Covenant Christian Chargers in Class C.

Class C………Gr. Covenant Christian Chargers (22-5)

The Chargers final game of the 2017-18 season was played today on the same court that the M.S.U. Spartans call home. The Chargers goal was to win the State Championship, however, today Detroit Edison Academy would stand in the way. The Chargers final record will show a 5 in the loss column, but there is no shame in those looses. With a reported enrollment of 371 students, the Class C state semifinalist, played a very difficult non-conference schedule. The 4 regular season losses came at the hands of Class B semi finalist GR Catholic Central, Godwin Wolverines (ranked #4 in Class B), Kelloggsville (OK Silver runner up to Godwin), and GR South Christian (Regional runner-up who lost to Cath. Cent). Detroit Edison is the 5th and final team this season to defeat the Chargers. The final score was 55-43. Congratulations to the GR Covenant Christian Chargers on a great season.

Class B……..GR Catholic Central Cougars (23-2)………

Unlike the Chargers, the Cougars season has not ended. They play in a Semi Final game from the Breslin Center on Friday Evening at 7:30. The game will be covered LIVE by MSR (Dave Princer). Their opponent is the Undefeated New Haven Rockets (26-0).  The 2 losses on the season have come at the hands of Godwin and West Ottawa. Opening the season with the most difficult 4 game schedule in the area and suffering only one loss has positioned this team for success. The early schedule includeded Detroit Country Day, GR Christian (last year’s runner-up in Class A), GR Covenant Christian, and Godwin (ranked #4). Having a Conference title, District title, and a Regional title are nice, but maybe this is the year for the Cougars to hoist the State Championship Trophy. Class A……..West Ottawa Panthers (24-2)……..

The team from the West Coast isn’t ready to call it a season. They will also play on Friday at the Breslin Center. The Class A Semi-Finals begin the 4 game schedule on Friday. Game 1 features the defending champions Clarkston (24-1) vs Warren DeLaSalle (19-7). Noon will be the tip off time for game 1. Game 2 will see the Panthers of West Ottawa (24-2) vs the Novi Wildcats (17-8). The Wildcats earned their way to the Breslin on a last second buzzer beater ending Bellevilles‘ season. The Panthers quarter final victory was a well fought battle between two heavyweights. The final margin was just 3 points and the Panthers emerged victorious 58-55 over the East Lansing Trojans. The West Ottawa Panthers will play at 2:00pm. Dave Princer and Nick Tuori will have the Michigan Basketball Academy pre-game show at 1:45. Games 3 and 4 feature Class B teams. GR Catholic Central plays in game 4 at 7:30.
